About Nicole Crump, LCSW-R
I know what it feels like to be invisible even to yourself.
That's why I do this work.
Hello! I am Nicole Crump, LCSW-R
My expertise is not from clinicial training only. It came from my own life — through my own experience of emotional disconnection, of understanding how it feels to function perfectly on the surface while something underneath feels broken. That personal understanding is not separate from my clinical work. It's the foundation of it.
I've spent 25 years in this field and 16 years in private practice in Rochester, NY. In that time, I've sat with individuals and couples at the hardest points of their lives — and I've learned that most people don't need someone to fix them. They need someone who can finally help them hear what they actually need.
I've been on both sides of this work.
What I understand about emotional disconnection I didn't only learn in a classroom. I lived it. And that changes everything about how I sit with people.
When I was 16, my father died suddenly from a massive heart attack. The loss was immediate and total — and I had no idea how to hold it. So I didn't. My subconscious mind did what it had to do to keep me moving: it disconnected me from my emotions, from my grief, from myself. I functioned. I survived. I had no idea what it had cost me.
Years later, in my clinical training, I discovered attachment theory and emotionally focused therapy. And I realized something I hadn't been able to see before: that the wall I had built to protect myself was the same wall that was keeping me from everything I actually wanted. Connection. Being truly known. Trusting myself.
I did my own work. Deeply. And what I found on the other side of it — the self-awareness, the emotional fluency, the ability to actually be present in my own life — is what I now spend every day helping other people find.
I tell you this not because my story is the focual point. But because I want you to know — when you sit across from me, you are not sitting across from someone who learned this from a textbook. You are sitting across from someone who has been where you are. And who knows what's possible on the other side of it.
““I had a huge, paradoxical fear of being seen — even though I consciously craved it. The deeper truth was this: I was terrified of learning who I was outside of the helper role. Doing that work changed everything. It’s why I know it can change everything for you too.””
My approach is built on one belief: Real change happens where the emotional patterns live.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
The most research-supported approach for couples work. Built on the understanding that our deepest need is to feel safe and emotionally connected — and when that breaks down, everything else follows.
Sex & Intimacy Therapy
Certified and deeply experienced in this work. Intimacy concerns are almost always emotional concerns — and I treat them that way, with complete honesty and zero judgment.
Attachment & Relationship Patterns
Understanding the blueprint of how your early relationships shaped you — and how it's showing up in your life and relationships today.
This is where the real work lives.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trained in complex trauma and trauma-focused approaches. I know how to work with what's underneath — gently, carefully, and at a pace that feels right for you.
Family Systems
You don't exist in isolation. The system you grew up in shaped you in ways you may not even be aware of yet. Understanding that system is often the key to understanding yourself.
Long-Term, Honest Work
I don't promise quick fixes. I promise our work together will address your core beliefs about yourself. My clients don't come to me for coping skills. They come to actual transformation.
